Riverdale, NY - There was no time better than Tuesday evening for the Dolphins to pick up their first win of the season.
The University of Mount Saint Vincent welcomed Purchase College to town, kicking off their 2025 Skyline Conference slate. The Dolphins impressed over the 60 minutes of action, going on to defeat the Panthers by the score 15-2, including a second half shutout by goaltender
Makenna Reekie.
Senior standout
Macey Forg stole the show early and often for UMSV, putting the game out of reach of Purchase almost immediately. The Orlando, Florida native would record a first quarter hat trick while adding four more to close out the half, as the Dolphins would take a commanding 9-2 lead into halftime.
Isabelle Gurley, who has put together a strong first year in Riverdale, picked up a goal and assist in the first half.
Brooke Frierson scored the first goal of her collegiate career as well while
Laziza Azimova added a helper of her own.
The dominance of UMSV rolled into the second half, where they outscored Purchase 6-0. Reekie had four of her seven saves over the third and fourth quarters while Gurley (four), Azimova,
Isabella Melecio,
AB Burnett and
Sofia Marcos combined for eight caused turnovers.
Forg would finish the contest with a career-high nine goals on 15 shots on goal while Gurley scooped eight ground balls. Azimova and Burnett would record a goal and assist apiece while Melecio added a score of her own. Freshman
Rowan Moran had four ground balls in the victory.
The Dolphins will look to continue their winning ways on April 5 in a showdown with Manhattanville University.
