Second Half Struggles Lead to Dolphins' Home Opener Loss

Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's women's lacrosse made their appearance on Marillac Field for the first time in the 2025 season on Friday night for a non-conference game against Felician University. The Dolphins were able to keep things close early on, but second half struggles allowed the Golden Falcons to take control and come out on top 15-3.

The visiting Falcons took an early 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of play, but would remain scoreless for the rest of the first quarter with the help of sophomore Makenna Reekie in goal. A late push from the Dolphins, sparked by a goal from junior Ella Meberg, closed the gap to 2-1 to start the second.

UMSV was quickly able to tie things up as senior Macey Forg scored her first goal of the season not even a minute into the second quarter. Both teams struggled to find the back of the net until back-to-back goals from Felician put them up 4-2 with just under three minutes to play. Meberg scored a late goal for the Dolphins once again, but the Falcons immediately responded with one of their, giving them a 5-3 at halftime.

The Dolphins faced a tough second half, struggling to score a single goal. Meanwhile the Falcons were able to find their rhythm, and exploded for six third quarter goals and four more in the fourth.

Meberg finished with two goals, while Forg led the team with three draw controls to go along with a goal and a ground ball. Reekie racked up 15 ground balls and 14 saves and caused five turnovers. Freshman Isabelle Gurley added three ground balls, two caused turnovers, and an assist. Senior Brooke Frierson registered 4 ground balls for UMSV.

The Dolphins will be back on Marillac Field for another non-conference game on Wednesday, March 19, and will face off against King's College.
