Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Dolphins' Effort Falls Short in Loss to Monarchs

Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's women's lacrosse team was back on their home field on Wednesday evening for a non-conference match up against King's College. It was a hard-fought team effort from the Dolphins, but they would ultimately fall to the Monarchs 15-9.

King's got on the board first, but UMSV immediately responded with a goal from junior Ella Meberg. The visiting Monarchs went on a six-goal scoring spree to secure an early 7-1 lead, however Meberg once again found the back of the net to close out the first quarter. In the second, the Dolphins put up another two goals from dual-sport athlete AB Burnett and senior Macey Forg.

Despite trailing 9-4 at the half, the Dolphins were relentless and put up a fight in the third. UMSV held the Monarchs to just one goal, while scoring four of their own, making the score 10-8 going into the last fifteen minutes of play. Unfortunately, the Dolphins struggled to convert in the fourth and King's would come out on top.

Meberg led the way for the Dolphins with 4 goals. Forg finished with 2 goals and an assist, while freshman Isabelle Gurley also scored a goal of her own. Sophomore goalie Makenna Reekie carried UMSV on the defensive end with 18 saves, 8 ground balls, and 3 caused turnovers.

Before conference action begins in April, the Dolphins will play one more non-conference game on Saturday, March 29, against Trinity Washington University on Marillac Field.
