Bronx, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's softball team closed out their busy week on Saturday with a non-conference doubleheader against Lehman College. The Dolphins swept the Lightning, with a dominant 11-1 win in game one and a thrilling 6-5 victory in game two.
Senior
Aaliyah Dejesus set the tone with a double to left field in her first at bat and would later score on a single from freshman
Samantha Aviles. The Dolphins increased their lead to 3-0 in the third inning and from then on could not be stopped. Back-to-back doubles from Dejesus and Aviles along with a single to left field from sophomore
Mirabla Sandez would send in three runs in the fourth. UMSV strung together four more hits in the fifth, two of which were from Aviles and Senior
Sabrina Colon to drive in runs. Sandez would close out game one with a three-run home run.Â
Dejesus, Aviles, and Sandez would lead the way with three hits each, while Sandez led the Dolphins in RBIs with four. Junior pitcher
Savannah Autobee struck out five batters and received the win.Â
UMSV secured the sweep in game two with freshman pitcher
Elizabeth Espinosa getting the win and Autobee the save. The Dolphins jumped out to an early lead scoring two runs off a single to left field from freshman
Chloe Hart in the first inning. UMSV extended their lead to 3-0 with Aviles driving in a run in the second. The Dolphins put up two more runs in the top of third, but the Lightning answered with four of their own, making the game 5-4. Sophomore
Paige Goerman would score on a wild pitch in the fourth to keep the Dolphins ahead.Â
Hart led the Dolphins in hits with three and RBIs with two. Goerman and Autobee also recorded two hits each for UMSV. Freshman pitcher
Gracie Laukkanen continued to impress, striking out six batters in four innings.Â
The Dolphins will look to extend their win streak to four games as they take on St. Joseph's University-Long Island in a Skyline conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 5.Â
