Newburgh, NY - After two dominant wins over Yeshiva last weekend, the University of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team was looking to continue their winning ways this Saturday as they took on Mount Saint Mary College for another conference doubleheader. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, they would fall to the Knights in both games. UMSV suffered a heartbreaking 11-10 loss in game one, while game two was cut short in the top of the eighth due to weather, ending in a 13-8 defeat.
The home team jumped to quick 2-0 lead in the first inning, but this did not faze the Dolphins as they responded with four runs of their own in the third inning. It was junior
Joshua McCormick who set the tone in the top of the third with a two-run homer. Senior
Jason Albert followed up with a single and would later advance to third off of a double from junior
Will Granata. Senior
Stephen Marinez kept the momentum going with another hit that drove in Albert.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Knights reclaimed their lead at 5-4, but the Dolphins answered once again. UMSV would score six runs in the top of the fifth, which saw a three-run double from senior
Dom Porto and a two-run homer from Albert. Mount Saint Mary would take back the lead in the bottom of the sixth and the Dolphins could not find a response. Despite the outcome, UMSV impressed with 14 hits led by Albert who finished 4-for-4 with 2 RBI.
Both teams would remain scoreless through the first three innings in game two. The Dolphins got on the board first in the top of the fourth, but the Knights quickly jumped to an 8-2 lead by the bottom of the fifth. UMSV found their rhythm in the top of the sixth, where they scored 5 runs off of 4 hits. Graduate student
JT Jimenez came up big for the Dolphins, ripping a three-run double and later scoring on a triple from Albert. Unfortunately, UMSV would ultimately fall short as Mount Saint Mary continued to extend their lead through the final innings.
Junior
Pablo Austin, sophomore
Zach Turko, Porto, and Albert led the Dolphins in hits with two, while Jimenez led in RBIs with three.
Next up, the Dolphins will face Farmingdale State College on Sunday, March 30, for another Skyline conference doubleheader.
