Bronx, NY - After a dominant win over Lehman College on Thursday, the University of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team picked up right where they left off with a sweep over John Jay College. The Dolphins are now on a three-game win streak and have a 5-2 overall record.
For the fourth straight game now, UMSV has scored at least one run in the first inning. Junior
Joshua McCormick set the tone as he doubled to center field and drove in senior
Dom Porto. The Bloodhounds responded in the second inning, scoring seven runs of their own. This however did not faze the Dolphins, as they would make a comeback and put up an impressive 5 runs in the seventh inning to win the first game 8-7.
Another double from McCormick would send Porto home in the third, making the score 7-2. Senior
Jason Albert's fifth-inning home run also helped give the Dolphins the momentum they needed to mount their comeback. UMSV's tremendous last inning was led by key hits from graduate student
Joey DiNorcia, junior
Pablo Austin, and sophomore
Zach Turko.
Porto, McCormick, Austin, and Turko all registered two hits. McCormick and DiNorcia led the Dolphins in RBIs with two each. Sophomore right-handed pitcher
Ryan Sharkey received the win and senior
Nicholas Rodriguez was awarded the save.
UMSV delivered another solid performance in game two, highlighted by a six-run surge in the fifth inning. The Dolphins got on the board first, as Turko doubled to left center driving in DiNorcia. The Bloodhounds saw a brief lead as they answered with two runs in the third. Prior to the Dolphins' dominant fifth inning, junior
John Anthony Spanoudakis homered to left center to tie up the game.
Graduate student
JT Jimenez would single to right field to start the fifth. Junior
Will Granata kept things going, doubling to left center and advancing Jimenez to third. The Dolphins kept this rally going and put up a staggering total of 7 hits, with Austin, DiNorcia, senior
Conor Martin, Turko, and McCormick also contributing. UMSV would ultimately come out on top with a final score of 9-2.
Jimenez led the Dolphins in hits with 4, while Spanoudakis led with 3 RBIs. Junior right-handed pitcher
Gerjuan Tyrus received the win for UMSV.
The Dolphins will now gear up for their spring break trip to Myrtle Beach and look to extend their winning streak to 4 games as they take on Plymouth State University on Monday.
