Wayne, NJ - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team is now 2-2 after taking on the William Patterson Pioneers in a non-conference game on Tuesday. It was a challenging match up for the Dolphins, who ultimately fell to the Pioneers 12-1.
The game started with UMSV taking an early lead in the first inning. Senior
Dom Porto was able to get on base off of a fielding error and eventually steal second. Junior Josh McCormick got things going for the Dolphins, hitting a single to right center driving in Porto.
William Patterson was able to find their rhythm by the second and scored in every inning, including a 5-run inning in the fifth, until the Dolphins picked up their defense to hold them scoreless in the sixth. UMSV struggled, while the Pioneers were error-free to prevent the Dolphins from securing a run.
Despite the loss, sophomore
Zach Turko and graduate student
JT Jimenez chipped in aside McCormick with a hit. Meanwhile, senior right-handed pitcher
Alex Alvarez led the Dolphins with five strikeouts.
The Dolphins will look to bounce back and return to the win column on Thursday as they take on Lehman College.
