Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Dolphins' Comeback Attempt Falls Short

Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's lacrosse team entertained their home crowd on Saturday with a hard-fought non-conference match up against Salem State University. Unfortunately, the Dolphins fell short, and the Vikings would come out on top, 9-7.

The visiting Vikings got on the board first with two early goals. The Dolphins immediately responded with a goal from senior Ryan Jean-Pharuns. Salem State scored three more goals, good for a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, UMSV answered in the second, with strong play on both ends of the field. The Dolphins held the Vikings scoreless, with their defense led by senior Jake Luxoro and sophomore Donte Thornhill, along with graduate student Joseph Seminatore in goal. Meanwhile, sophomore Alfred Lamptey was a dominant force inside the faceoff circle, while Jean-Pharuns and freshmen duo Elvis Prempeh and Nigel Walker all found the back of the net.

UMSV entered the second half trailing by just one goal, until the Vikings extended their lead to 6-4 with 9:28 to play. It was a back-and-forth battle, but junior Isaac Parsons brought the Dolphins back within one, scoring a man-up goal with 1:44 on the clock. The Dolphins continued to fight, but three fourth quarters from the Vikings proved to be too much for UMSV to overcome.

Walker and Jean-Pharuns led the Dolphins in goals with 2 each, while Prempeh, Parsons, and sophomore Nathanial Simpson all had one of their own. Lamptey finished with a game-high 9 ground balls and won 11-of-16 faceoffs. Seminatore registered 19 saves and collected three ground balls. Thornhill and Luxoro forced four turnovers each and combined for five ground balls.

The Dolphins are looking to get back in the win column as they head to Pennsylvania this weekend for another non-conference game, this time against the Rosemont College Ravens.
