Dolphins Dominate in Road Win Over Saint Elizabeth

Morristown, NJ - The Dolphins claimed their first win of the season on Friday in a non-conference game against Saint Elizabeth University. In dominating fashion, the Dolphins put up 20 runs, securing Matt Rienzi's first win as head coach for the University of Mount Saint Vincent.

Neither team scored until the fourth inning when the Dolphins took the lead with two runs, sparked by graduate student JT Jiminez rifling a triple down the right field line. The Eagles however responded with four runs off of three hits in the bottom of the fourth. An RBI from senior Dom Porto would send sophomore Zach Turko home and bring the Dolphins within one, until the home team closed out the fifth with two runs of their own securing a 6-3 lead.

UMSV was able to put up four runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by graduate student Joey DiNorcia stealing home and a home run from sophomore Andrew Farina. The Dolphins would use this as momentum to continue their strong play, scoring 12 runs in the eighth inning to extend their lead and put the game out of the home team's reach.

Jiminez and senior Stephen Marinez led the Dolphins in hits with three each. UMSV finished with an impressive 17 RBIs, 5 of which came from Jiminez, while Marinez, Porto, Turko, Farina, and junior Pablo Austin all added 2. From the mound, junior Jake Bland led the way with 5 strikeouts, while fellow junior Gerjuan Tyrus struck out two in just one inning.

The Dolphins will look to continue their winning ways as they travel to New Jersey City University on Wednesday, March 5.
