Riverdale, NY - After three matches on the road, the University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's volleyball team finally took the floor in the Sharp Center for the first time in the 2025 season for a non-conference match against Brooklyn College. The Dolphins dropped three of four sets to the Bulldogs (25-22, 16-25, 19-25, 18-25).
The Dolphins started strong with two consecutive service aces from Junior
Matthew Barrancos and would go up by as many as six points in the first set. Back-to-back kills from
James Rose,
Yestro Luciano Jr., and
Olatomiwa Ibitayo would allow UMSV to take the first set from the Bulldogs.
The Dolphins struggled in the second set as the visiting Bulldogs rattled off seven straight points. Despite a continuous battle in both the third and fourth sets, the Bulldogs were too much for the Dolphins to overcome.
Freshman stand-out
Tyler Hanna continued to impress, finishing the night with 5 kills, 4 digs, 4 block assists and two service aces. Barrancos and Ibitayo led the way for the Dolphins with 20 assists and 9 kills respectively, while Rose added 7 kills and 7 digs. Freshman
Terrence Short and senior
Carlos Martinez combined for 12 digs, at 6 apiece.
The Dolphins will now prepare to challenge Bard College and John Jay College in a tri-match hosted by the Raptors.
