Montclair, NJ - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's women's lacrosse started their 2025 season on Wednesday night with a non-conference game at Montclair State University. The Dolphins struggled to keep up with the Red Hawks, who outscored them in every quarter, resulting in a tough 22-6 loss.
The Dolphins came out strong as senior
Alicia Rodriguez secured the opening draw control. Fellow senior
Jennifer Brennan put the Dolphins on the board first, off of an assist from freshman
Isabelle Gurley, however the home team would then respond with 7 straight goals. UMSV continued to struggle on both ends of the field in the second quarter, and the Red Hawks would have a comfortable 16-4 lead after the first thirty minutes of play.Â
In the second half, the Dolphins adjusted well by increasing their defensive pressure, limiting Montclair to just three goals per quarter. UMSV worked to close the gap, but their early struggles created a deficit too large to overcome.Â
Rodriguez led the way for the Dolphins, finishing with 8 draw controls, four goals, and two caused turnovers. Sophomore goalie
Makenna Reekie had 8 saves, along with two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Sophomore
Dayonna Thomas also caused two turnovers for UMSV.Â
The Dolphins will play on their home field for the first time in the 2025 season on Tuesday, March 4, in another non-conference game against Wilkes University.Â
