Dolphins Secure First Win Of Season In Three Sets Over Pratt

Brooklyn, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's volleyball team was back on the road Thursday evening for a non-conference match at Pratt. The Dolphins were able to return to Riverdale with their first win this season as they pushed past the Cannoneers in just three sets.

The Dolphins set the tone early in the first set with back-to-back service aces from junior Matthew Barrancos. Both teams went on their own brief runs, however a kill and service ace from sophomore Yestro Luciano Jr. put UMSV on top 25-22. The Dolphins continued to control the pace in set two, scoring four straight points to move them in front 19-12. The home team would go on a run of their own, but strong defense allowed the Dolphins to post a 25-19 win. In the third set, Pratt rattled off seven points in a row putting them in front 15-9, however UMSV was able to recover. A service ace from freshman Ethan Castro would finish off the set and match at 27-25.

Freshman standout Tyler Hanna finished the night with 10 kills, 3 service aces and 2 block assists. Graduate James Rose had 5 kills, 4 service aces and 4 digs. Senior Olatomiwa Ibitayo registered 8 kills, while freshman Terrence Short had 4. Barrancos led the Dolphins in assists (22), while graduate Felix Paulino led in digs (5).

The Dolphins will look to get their second win of the season at home on Thursday, February 27, in a conference match against Yeshiva University.
