Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's basketball team was back on their home court Tuesday evening for another Skyline showdown against Yeshiva University, one of the top teams in the conference. The Dolphins put up a fight, but the Maccabees were too much to overcome and came out on top 70-61.
Yeshiva got the scoring started, however the Dolphins immediately responded with a three pointer from freshman
Aidan McCahey and a jump shot from transfer
Josiah Basket putting the Dolphins up 5-2. Strong defense from both teams slowed down the scoring, but back-to-back buckets from senior
Adrian Rraci and transfer
Max DePina gave the Dolphins a 12-8 lead with ten minutes left in the half. A big three pointer from Basket would tie things up until the Maccabees would go on an 8-0 run. The Dolphins answered and were able to score seven points in the final two minutes, cutting the visitors' lead to only three points going into halftime.
Yeshiva came out strong in the second half, holding the Dolphins scoreless for nearly four minutes and putting up six points of their own giving them a 35-26 lead. After a
James Mooney timeout, the Dolphins were able to convert on two consecutive possessions cutting Yeshiva's lead to nine. Both teams would go on to exchange baskets until the Maccabees went on another 6-0 run putting them up 50-34 with ten minutes left to play. The Dolphins continued to fight back, however the gap was too big to bridge.
Basket continued his strong first season for the Dolphins with 14 points and a pair of assists. DePina also impressed with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Graduate student
DJ Tucker was all over the stat sheet with 8 rebounds, 6 points, two assists and two steals. Junior
Gerard Novello, sophomore
Louis Vidal, and Rraci all finished with 6 points of their own.
The Dolphins will look to get back in the win column on Saturday as they head to Mount Saint Mary College for another big Skyline Conference game.
