Dolphins Fall to Rams in Skyline Battle

Riverdale, NY - It was a back-and-forth battle in the Sharp Center on Saturday afternoon as the University of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team took on Farmingdale. After falling to the Rams earlier this season, the Dolphins came out ready to compete.

Transfers Erin Smith and Gretta Baker, along with freshman Grace Kennedy set the tone early, converting on back-to-back possessions. The trio would all go on to score double digits. Kennedy scored 7 of her 12 points in the second quarter carrying the Dolphins to a 32-27 lead going into the half.

Despite only scoring 8 third-quarter points, the Dolphins were able to maintain their lead until a free throw from the Rams with 50 seconds left gave them a one-point lead going into the final 10 minutes of play. Even with 7 straight points by Smith, Farmingdale stayed ahead forcing the Dolphins to foul. The Rams were efficient from the free throw line, allowing them to secure a 59-56 victory.

Smith led the way with 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals, while Baker recorded her first double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Captains JaKaia Lotz and Kayla Hanley also grabbed 10 rebounds each. Hanley continued to create for the Dolphins with 7 assists.

The Dolphins are back in action on Wednesday night and will look to protect their home court in a rematch of the 2024 Skyline Championship game.
