Dolphins Advance To Skyline Final For Third Straight Season

Riverdale, NY - The Dolphins have been on quite the run the last number of years - and they continued that trend on Wednesday evening.

The University of Mount Saint Vincent clinched their ticket to the Skyline Conference final in a defeat over a tough #5 Mount Saint Mary squad on Marillac Field. The Knights jumped out to an early one goal lead, but a dominant second half propelled UMSV to their third conference championship appearance in as many seasons.

The Dolphins scored all four of their goals in the final 45 minutes of action. Freshman Jazzlyn Cedillo knotted things up just a minute and 15 seconds into the second half, when she corralled a loose ball in front of the net and converted the shot attempt. UMSV was on the receiving end of good luck, as the team took the lead at the 65 minute mark when a shot by senior Dana DeDominicis ricocheted off a Knights defender into the net.

Reigning Offensive Player of the Year Eva Puentes showed why she was the recipient of the award. Cedillo placed a perfect ball past two MSMC defenders, finding the foot of Puentes for the third goal for the Dolphins. The Knights would cut the lead to one with just two minutes left, but a last minute goal from Ima Kellerman put the cherry on top of the victory.

Javiera Sanchez made four saves in the victory. The defensive unit of DeDominicis, Camera Cruz, Maddie Halford, Hannah Mejia, Lily Ostiguy and Gisselle Soria limited the Knights to just eight total shots.

The Dolphins are set to challenge #3 St. Joseph's Long Island on Saturday. The Golden Eagles got the better of the Dolphins in the regular season, winning the home matchup by the score of 3-0.
