Dolphins Continue Surge Towards Playoffs With Win Over Valiants

Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent matched up with Manhattanville University on Wednesday evening, with the team having their eyes set on the Skyline Conference postseason tournament. The team continued to showcase why they're primed for a deep playoffs run, as they went on to handle the Valiants by the score of 4-1.

The victory made it four straights wins for UMSV. They're now 10-2-2 overall and 7-1-1 in conference play, currently good for the third seed.

The impressive striking duo of Eva Puentes and Aiyanna Robles Sedano were on full display, showcasing why they're arguably the best one-two scoring punch in the Skyline. The Dolphins took advantage of a three-on-two fast break attempt when freshman Jazzlyn Cedillo cut a Valiants pass off and charged towards the net alongside Puentes and Robles Sedano. She found Puentues in the middle of the box, who went on to send a strike towards the top left of the box to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the action.

Puentes would continue her ascent towards the top of the Skyline goals chart at the 19 minute mark, when she scored her second goal of the game and 10th of the year to pile onto the Dolphins' lead.

From there, it was Robles Sedano's turn. The transfer sophomore scored a pair of goals within a nine minute span, both featuring impressive footwork, speed and precision. She now has eight in her first season with UMSV.

The standout offense wouldn't have happened without freshman midfielder Ariana Hernandez. The California native picked up assists on the final three goals of the evening, with all three coming on perfect through balls to set up her teammates to near perfection.

The defense did a tremendous job bringing physicality and speed, leading to Manhattanville taking just three shots on goal all game long. Cameron Cruz, Dana DeDominicis, Maddie Halford, Kerrigyn Lynam and Gisselle Soria all took turns shutting down the opposition.

The Dolphins will look to keep their win streak in tact in a rare late season, non-conference contest against Ursinis College on Saturday.
