Riverdale, NY - A senior stepped up when it mattered most on Senior Day.
The University of Mount Saint Vincent played host to Old Westbury on Saturday on a day where they honored their 2025 senior class, made up of
Oscar Billman,
Maxuel Buonaga,
Kevin Feijo,
Joseph Fernandes,
Joel Garcia,
Luka Gelevski,
Arav Kumar and
Anthony Rochester. Fernandes emerged as the breakthrough performer of the game, as his header broke a zero-zero tie with just five minutes remaining in the first half. The Panthers would tie things up in the second before UMSV battled back, scoring a pair of late goals to remain undefeated on the year.
The program now sits at 10-0-2 with a 6-0-2 conference record, good for first in the standings.
Both defenses did a good job limiting the opposing offenses, but it was the Dolphins who specifically shined. The back line stood tall, allowing just one total shot all half. Despite struggling to find the back of the net, it wasn't for a lack of trying, as the Dolphins took 11 first half shots of their own.
Fernandes' header in traffic not only broke the score, it came in as the first goal of his four-year career.
The Panthers controlled the possession battle to open the second, and a miscommunication on defense led to the Panthers tying things up at one. The goal could've put the Dolphins down, but instead they rose to the occasion, with the team continuing their offensive effort with 30 minutes remaining.
Marti Senyer and
Jenluis Henriquez found the net within one minute of each other beginning at the 82nd minute mark to give UMSV the edge until time expired.
Samuel Reine allowed just one goal while picking up four saves.
The Dolphins will hit the road for the remainder of the season, starting with a showdown against Manhattanville on Wednesday.
