Dolphins Keep Win Streak Intact In Comeback Victory Over Knights

Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's biggest win of the year not only kept their win streak alive, but also showed this team can top adversity.

The Dolphins and Mount Saint Mary College went to battle on a rainy Saturday afternoon on Marillac Field, with UMSV looking to remain unbeaten while the Knights hoped to climb the Skyline standings with playoffs near. MSMC edged UMSV out for a good portion of the action, but late heroics from sophomore Luka Gelevski propelled the program to its ninth win in 2025.

The team currently holds the best record in the conference with a 5-0-2 record.

It was a definition of a defensive battle over the first 45 minutes of play. While there were shot attempts - 10 combined, four of which came from the Dolphins - it was a struggle for possession due to the wet conditions.

The second half is where the scoring picked up, first by way of the Knights. Just five minutes into the action, MSMC took advantage of miscommunication from the Dolphins back line, as the breakaway opportunity got behind goalkeeper Samuel Reine for the first goal of the afternoon. The sophomore otherwise had yet another strong performance with four saves.

The Dolphins didn't let the point deter their efforts. They continued to press into the opposing zone, and 10 minutes later received a corner kick opportunity after Sebastian Ciurlizza narrowly missed his third goal of the season. The junior would take the free kick, and placed it perfectly on sophomore defender Sean Doyle's head, who scored his first career goal to tie things up at one with just under 30 minutes to play.

UMSV gained extra energy with new life, as Javier Trujillo specifically found himself pressing towards the net with near shot opportunities. The continued pressure finally paid off, but it all started on the back line when standout sophomore Jacob Grieffenberger placed a beautiful ball on Trujillo's foot while inside the box. The sophomore tapped it to newcomer Brandon Leon, who crossed it to near perfection to a charging Gelevski who buried the shot.

The score, which happened with just over eight minutes remaining, eventually was the difference.

UMSV will get a week to rest and recover before playing in their regular season home finale against Old Westbury.
