Riverdale, NY - Another night on Marillac, another dominant showcase by the Dolphins.
The University of Mount Saint Vincent hosted St. Joseph's University of Brooklyn on Wednesday evening with the hopes of continuing their impressive start to Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins did exactly that, as the team pitched a collective 11-0 shutout featuring eight separate goal scorers. The end result improved UMSV's overall record to 5-1-2, including a 3-0-1 mark in conference play.
Head coach
Jason Weisberg used the entirety of his roster, and they all shined. As a unit, the Dolphins took 35 shots, including 23 on goal, while letting up zero shots on the opposite end.
Familiar faces kicked the game off offensively.
Victoria Gamarra opened play with the first goal of the afternoon with a strike at the 2:23 mark. The senior was followed up by junior striker
Eva Puentes, who scored a pair of goals within nine minutes of each other to give her team a comfortable three goal edge. Gamarra was credited with an assist of the second of Puentes' two goals.
Seniors
Emily Legler and
Shalyn Pryor scored two goals apiece while
Jasmine Hewitt and
Mia Del Rosario converted their second shot attempts of the season.
It was also a banner night for two UMSV talents. Junior
Molly Rowland and sophomore
Claire Elliott each recorded the first goals of their respective careers in Riverdale.
With the Bears in the rearview mirror, the Dolphins now prepare for a major task - a 2024 conference final rematch against Farmingdale. Kick-off is set for Saturday afternoon.
