Dolphins Walk Away Winners Of Skyline Final Rematch

Riverdale, NY - The Dolphins walked away winners in one of their biggest tests to date.

The University of Mount Saint Vincent and Farmingdale State College returned to Marillac Field for the first time since the 2024 Skyline Conference Championship game, as both teams were looking to climb the standings with the postseason in the not-so distant future. It was the Dolphins who would walk away victorious, as they impressed on both ends of the field over the course of 90 minutes to earn a hard-fought 2-0 win.

The result put the Dolphins at 6-1-2 overall while remaining undefeated in conference competition (4-0-1).

Aiyanna Robles Sedano continued the terrific start to her collegiate career in Riverdale. The Iona University transfer put the Dolphins on the board at the 30 minute mark when she made a shifty move past the Rams defender and left the opposing goaltender guessing as she buried the low and away shot attempt. Freshman Jazzlyn Cedillo was awarded the assist when she set up her teammate in impressive fashion with a cross-field pass down in Farmingdale's zone.

The offense kept the pressure up, as UMSV rattled off 10 total shots, including six on goal. The defense, meanwhile, controlled the pace of the game all afternoon. The Dolphins limited the Rams to just one total shot, including a complete shutout in the second half. Cameron Cruz, Dana DeDominicis, Maddie Halford, Lily Ostiguy and Gisselle Soria made up a unit that matched the physicality of Farmingdale and used it to their advantage.

Speaking of physicality, the Dolphins were on the receiving end of a hard foul just outside the box. The opportunity was set up perfectly for freshman Ariana Hernandez, who took the free kick attempt and buried the strike with just over 18 minutes to play, giving her team a two goal lead.

UMSV excelled enough on both ends of the field to take the win in the championship rematch. Javiera Sanchez recorded her fifth shutout of the year, including two in her last two games.

The Dolphins will look to keep their winning ways in tact on the road when they travel to Patchogue to take on St. Joseph's University Long Island on Tuesday.
