Newburgh, NY - The last time the University of Mount Saint Vincent played in the Kaplan Center, they punched their ticket to the Skyline Conference championship game. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, they couldn't pick up where they left off a season ago. The Dolphins struggled on Tuesday evening, resulting in a 65-42 loss at the hands of Mount Saint Mary College.
The loss evened the Dolphins' overall record to 6-6 while dropping to 4-3 in conference play.
UMSV had to play from behind early, as the team fell into a double digit hole after just one quarter. The team would attempt to climb back in both the second and third, but a six-point performance in the final 10 minutes was the nail in the coffin for a Dolphins team looking for their seventh win this season.
Graduate student
Erin Smith made her return to Newburgh after spending four seasons with the Knights. The fifth-year guard scored 11 points to go along with fifth rebounds and two assists in 31 minutes of action. Junior
JaKaia Lotz let the way for her team in scoring with 12 points.
Gretta Baker couldn't find her shot in the contest but did a number of things to keep her team in the game, including leading the way in boards (eight) and blocks (one) while recording two steals.
Kayla Hanley continued to run this offense, this time with five assists, while
Julia Angeles paced her team with a season-high four steals.
It's a quick turnaround for a Dolphins team that jumps right back into conference play. They'll look for win number five against the Skyline at home on Thursday in a contest against Old Westbury.
