Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dolphins Open 2025 With Loss Against Connecitcut College

New London, CT - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team returned to the court for the first time in the new year. After competing against Skyline Conference opponents in six of the last eight games, the Dolphins returned to non-conference action when they traveled to New London to take on Connecticut College. Unfortunately for UMSV, their first game in 2025 ended up in a loss, as they went on to drop the game to the Camels by the score of 90-51.

The Dolphins are now 6-5 through the first 11 games of the season.

Despite the offensive struggles overall, UMSV was led once again by their top two players. Erin Smith led the way for her team with 15 points, including going six of seven from the charity stripe. The Goshen native also tied for the team lead with a pair of steals while also adding three assists and three rebounds. Transfer sophomore Gretta Baker had a strong night on the offensive end of the floor, with her 14 points upping her season average to nearly 12 points per contest this season.

JaKaia Lotz got it done on both ends of the floor with seven point and a team-best seven boards, with six coming on the defensive end. Co-captain Kayla Hanley tied Smith with two steals while also leading the way with five assists. Sophomore Nailea Green and freshman Angelina Escobinas came off the bench and combined for nine points.

The Dolphins found success defensively at times. They forced Connecticut College to turn the ball over 17 times while generating eight steals.

UMSV returns to conference action next week. They'll travel to Newburgh on Tuesday to take on Mount Saint Mary College as the team looks to bring their Skyline record to 5-2.
