Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team was back on their home court Tuesday evening and were firing on all cylinders. Tremendous ball movement resulted in 26 team assists and allowed 11 Dolphins to score, powering UMSV to their 84-56 victory over Yeshiva.
An early 6-0 run by sophomore
Nailea Green and strong defense by the Dolphins gave them a 22-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Maccabees picked up the pace and cut the Dolphins lead to just seven points going into halftime. The Dolphins however responded well in the third quarter with transfer
Gretta Baker scoring 8 straight points. Not long after, graduate captain
Kayla Hanley would also go on a personal 7-0 run. Coach
Maria Nardulli's squad continued their efficient ways in the fourth to secure the win. Green finished the night with a career-high 14 points and pulled down 7 rebounds, while Baker led the Dolphins in scoring with 16. Hanley stuffed the stat sheet once again with 13 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, and a pair of steals.
Erin Smith and
JaKaia Lotz both continued their strong seasons for the Dolphins. Smith was all over the box score with 9 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds, and two steals, while Lotz finished with 8 points and 5 rebounds. Transfer
Ashley Marrocco also impressed with 7 points in just 6 minutes of action. Freshman
Angelina Escobinas was also a force on both ends of the floor with 4 assists, 3 points, and two steals.
Now 8-5 in conference play and on a three game winning streak, the Dolphins will look to carry this momentum going into Saturday's Skyline match-up against Farmingdale.
