UMSV Holds Off Mariners In Third Conference Win

King's Point, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's basketball team put themselves back in the win column Tuesday evening in a Skyline Conference match up at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Coach James Mooney saw an all-around team effort with 11 Dolphins scoring in the 75-61 victory. However, it was freshman Eric Woodberry who led the way for the Dolphins, recording his first collegiate double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds in just 23 minutes of action.

UMSV set the tone early going on an 8-0 run to start the game with Jalen Lewis, Blake Salice-Mitchell, and Aidan McCahey all contributing. Strong defense from the Dolphins held the Mariners to only 24% shooting from the field, meanwhile the Dolphins shot an efficient 48% giving them a 42-17 lead going into halftime.

The Dolphins started the second half off strong as well thanks to an Alex Chi jump shot. The Mariners picked up the pace in the second half, going on their own 10-0 run, but the Dolphins were too much to overcome.

Chi finished the night with 11 points, 4 rebounds, and a pair of assists. Salice-Mitchell and McCahey continued their strong starts to their collegiate careers scoring 7 points each and combining for 11 rebounds. Junior transfer Max DePina also impressed with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and two blocks. Junior Gerard Novello scored a season-high 9 points.

The Dolphins will look to defend their home court on Saturday in their next conference match up against St. Joseph's University-Long Island.
