Dolphins Attempt Comeback, Fall Short Against Privateers

Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent was looking to return to their winning ways on Saturday when they returned to the Sharp Center to take on Maritime College. The Privateers showed why they're undefeated in conference play and remained that way, topping the Dolphins by the score of 73-56.

Despite the tough battle, UMSV now sits at 5-10 overall while falling to 2-4 in conference play.

The Dolphins kept pace with Maritime early on. After jumping out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a Max DePina jumper, both sides traded baskets, with the Privateers eventually leading 12-9. The visitors would then go on a 6-2 run before head coach James Mooney enlisted a full court press. It was then when both DJ Tucker and Alex Chi impressed, as the duo caused two turnovers in three possessions while freshmen Blake Salice-Mitchell and Eric Woodberry would both get on the board.

From there, it would be all Maritime. They would shoot 47% from the floor, giving them a 38-25 lead at the break.

The Dolphins would turn the tide to begin the second half. UMSV would put up intense pressure on defense, forcing the Privateers to turn the ball over six times in the first seven minutes. At the same time, they'd get things done at the other end. In the midst of am 8-0 run, Josiah Basket would impress with seven points in the second half, including his first three pointer of the afternoon to make it a 40-38 ballgame.

A Tucker three ball with less than 13 minutes remaining would cut Maritime's lead to one, but that would be as close as the team would get for the remainder of regulation. The Privateers would once again turn on the jets, with their lead ballooning to double digits within a three minute span, securing the win for the road team.

Both Tucker and Basket would finsh in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Tucker would also lead the way in rebounds (four), steals (four) and assists. Chi and Woodberry would also contribute eight points each in the loss.

The Dolphins will set their sights on the United States Merchant Marine Academy when they travel to King's Point on Tuesday.
