Bronxville, NY - Looking to build off of their conference win on Wednesday, the University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's basketball team headed to Sarah Lawrence College and faced a dominant Gryphons squad. Struggles on both ends of the floor resulted in a 65-43 loss for the Dolphins.
The Dolphins saw their first lead of the game with 13:11 to play in the first half thanks to five straight points from newcomer
Josiah Basket, who finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds, and a
DJ Tucker free throw. However, three consecutive three pointers from the Gryphons forced a
James Mooney timeout. UMSV was able to respond and cut their opponents' lead to only two points with
Eric Woodberry,
Alex Chi, and
Aidan McCahey all scoring. Despite back to back baskets from Basket and
Kevin Agyemang, who finished with 11 points and 6 steals, in the last minute of the first half, the Gryphons knocked down a three giving them momentum and a 30-21 lead going into halftime.
The Dolphins struggled to find their rhythm offensively in the second half, meanwhile the Gryphons shot an impressive 50% from beyond the arc. Although UMSV did not come out on top, multiple Dolphins were able to contribute. In just 8 minutes of action, freshman
Eric Woodberry put up four points and grabbed four rebounds.
Adrian Rraci and
Max DePina also impressed, both stuffing the stat sheet. Rraci finished with 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 points, while DePina had 6 rebounds, a pair of steals, and 4 points.
Now 2-2 in conference play, the Dolphins will look to bounce back in their next Skyline matchup on Wednesday on the road at Purchase College.
