Troy, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's women's soccer team hit the road for the first time in 2024, traveling upstate to take on the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in a non-conference showdown against arguably the top team they'll see all year long. The Dolphins competed all game long, but eventually fell to RPI by the score of 3-0, bringing their early season record to 1-1.
The Dolphins and Engineers traded possessions in the early going of the first half, with UMSV's defense particularly standing strong. By the 30 minute mark, RPI would get on the board for the first time in the game, and would lead 2-0 at the break.
Despite the score,
Javiera Sanchez turned away two of the four shots that reached her in net, keeping her team in the game heading into the second half.
RPI would tack on an additional goal to put the game out of reach, but the Dolphins found an uptick in offensive chances. UMSV would take four shots over the final 45 minutes of action, with the Engineers goalkeeper making three saves.
Alicia Rodriguez,
Dana DeDominicis and
Julianna Agueci would reach one shot on goal each.
The Dolphins will look to right the ship against Wesleyan University on the road this coming Saturday.
