Riverdale, NY - The rematch of the 2023 Skyline Conference semifinal lived up to the hype.
The University of Mount Saint Vincent's women's soccer team hosted Farmingdale State College on Wednesday night, and the two powerhouse teams put on a fantastic back and forth battle on Marillac Field. Despite a number of chances, the Dolphins and Rams finished with a 0-0 score, giving UMSV their first draw in conference play.
The Dolphins defense limited Farmingdale to just three first half shots while limiting the opponents to find a rhythm offensively. The offense, meanwhile, had a tough time finding chances, but it wasn't for a lack of effort. In the latter portion of the first half, freshman
Julianna Agueci had a great shot attempt that was saved by the Rams before sophomore
Eva Puentes was able to get her foot on the ball after the rebound.
The second half mirrored the first.
Javiera Sanchez turned away all five shots that reached her, good for her third shutout against Skyline competition.
Victoria Gamarra would have a fantastic chance at giving her team the lead, but the Rams keeper made yet another save to keep things knotted at one.
UMSV took six total shots on goal, with senior captain
Alicia Rodriguez leading the way with two.
The Dolphins will look to return to the win column on Friday in a road contest against Maritime.
