Union, NJ - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's women's volleyball team looked to capitalize on their two home wins this past week when they hit the road to New Jersey to challenge Kean University, Centenary University and SUNY New Paltz in a two-day tournament hosted by the Cougars.
It was a tough go for the Dolphins, who lost to the Hawks on Friday before dropping both games to the Cyclones and Cougars on Saturday.
UMSV saw their best effort in the first match on Saturday against Centenary, one that went the distance. The Dolphins picked up victories in sets one and four, with sophomore JaKaia Lotz continuing the strong start to her collegiate volleyball career with a team-high 21 kills. Fifth year Melanieann Broderick added 16 of her own while middles Dominique Otranto and Sophia Madalakis combined for nine. Lydia Aryee's 41 assists further cemented her as one of the better setters in the conference as she continues to climb the leaderboards in that category.
The Dolphins would drop games one and three in consecutive sets. Broderick was the lone UMSV player to register double-digit kills against the Hawks while Lotz combined for 15 of her own against Kean. Aryree paced the Dolphins in both assists and digs in the New Paltz contest while Samantha Rapp and Katherine Torres each had two service aces against Kean.
The Dolphins will look to right the ship on Tuesday on the road against Lehman College.
