Purchase, NY - The first Skyline Conference win of the season has been secured.
The University of Mount Saint Vincent's women's soccer team took care of business on the road on Tuesday night, walking away with a three goal victory over Purchase College, good for the team's second win of the year. The Dolphins' tough non-conference slate seemed to be a positive for the squad despite the results, as the team looked well-prepared for the Panthers.
UMSV now sits at 2-3 overall thus far into the year.
Despite zeroes on the board on both sides over the first 32 minutes of action, it was only a matter of times. The Dolphins peppered Purchase with 23 first-half shots, as the offense was firing on all cylinders. UMSV finally got on the board at the 32:15 mark when junior
Dana DeDominicis buried her first goal of the season, one-timing a beautiful pass from freshman
Julianna Agueci, who secured the first point of her collegiate career.
The Dolphins carried the momentum to the beginning of the second half. Standout senior
Alicia Rodriguez sent a crosser into the box that made its way passed the Panthers keeper, good for her first of the season as well. UMSV wasn't done there, as
Shalyn Pryor would also notch her first goal with the program, sending a long ball into the net thanks to a strong pass from
Arianna Morales.
For as strong as the offense play, so, too, did the defense. Sophomores
Lily Ostiguy,
Maddie Halford and
Gisselle Soria manned the back line, allowing just four total shots.
Javiera Sanchez pitched her second shutout of the season.
The Dolphins will look to keep up their winning ways on Saturday when Mount Saint Mary comes to town for a rematch of the 2023 Skyline Conference first round showdown.
