Riverdale, NY - Another game on Marillac, another win for the University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's soccer team.
The Dolphins played host to Medgar Evers College on Monday night and walked away with a 4-0 victory that saw a majority of the roster see game action. UMSV, now 4-0-2 to kick off their season, enter Skyline Conference play without a loss and will look to keep up their terrific pace on both ends of the field.
In what has become a theme for the 2024 squad, it was the
Javier Trujillo show early and often. The first-year striker from Rio Rancho, New Mexico continued his tremendous start to his collegiate career, scoring a pair of goals in the 11th and 12th minutes to put things out of reach early. Trujillo's six goals not only leads the Dolphins, but also ties for the most in the Skyline Conference.
Freshman
Samuel Reine received his first start in net for UMSV, pitching a first half shutout. The Hamburg, Germany native saved the only two shots that reached goal, with the Dolphins defense, led by
Justin Betancourt, Sean McLellan and
Kevin Leiva, allowed just three total.
The second half was more of the same. UMSV's offense generated 11 more attempts, with sophomore
German Cruz and junior
Maxwell Buonaga each scoring their first goals of 2024.
Miguel Fierro saw action in net in the second half and also blanked the Cougars offense.
Next up for the Dolphins is conference action. They'll play host to Purchase College this coming Wednesday in Riverdale.
