Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's soccer team continued their winning ways on Marillac Field on Wednesday, walking away with a two goal victory over the City College of New York. The Dolphins remain undefeated through the first four games of the year, sporting a 3-0-1 record.
Despite the early season success, the Dolphins took on a tough Beavers squad who controlled the ball early in the first half. The defense, however, remained stout, as Nicolas Carvalho,
Donovan Speer and
Sean Doyle helped limit shots to zero over the first half.
UMSV found their way to the back of the net at the end of the first half, thanks to a foul by CCNY in their own box. Freshman
Javier Trujillo was awarded the penalty shot and converted, good for his team-high fourth goal of the season.
The momentum on both sides of the ball carried into the second half. UMSV peppered eight of their 20 shot attempts in the final 45 minutes of action and allowed just two over that same span. Freshman striker
Jacob Greiffenberger found his way to the top of the box and scored the first goal of his collegiate career with striker
Amos Bignotti picking up the assist.
Senior
Andrew Tarkazikis made his second straight start in net and turned away the only shot he faced.
The Dolphins are right back on Marillac Field on Saturday, playing host to Haverford College at 3 PM.
