Dolphins Dominate On Banner Night As Hewitt Secures Hat Trick

Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent honored the 2023 Skyline Conference Champions in a pregame ceremony, kicking off their 2024 season by unveiling their championship banner. The women's soccer team then went on to pick up right where they left off, as they dominated the City College of New York en route to a 6-0 victory on Marillac Field.

The Dolphins, who brought back nearly every single player from their title-winning roster, jumped out to a quck start against the 2024 CUNYAC champions. Junior Jasmine Hewitt got her team on the board just five minutues into the action, as she put in a header off a beatiful pass from sophomore Lily Ostiguy. Just minutes later, Hewitt found a rebounded shot, using her speed to get to the ball with no one in sight to secure her second of the contest.

Junior standout Dana DeDominicis would score one of her own, with leader Alicia Rodriguez picking up the assist, making it 3-0 Dolphins less than 13 minutes into the action.

The defense was equally as impressive as the offense. Gisselle Soria and Cameron Cruz both had fantastic evenings stifling CCNY's offense, as UMSV's defense allowed just one shot on goal, which was turned away by junior keeper Javiera Sanchez. Hewitt would secure a first half hat trick at the 32 minute mark, all but putting the game out of reach for good.

Despite cycling through his roster, Jason Weisberg's team showed why they're as good, if not better than last season's squad. Sophomore Mia Del Rosario and senior captain Victoria Gamarra would tack on a pair of goals, with Rodriguez registering her second assist while freshman Ima Kellerman secured her first collegiate point with a helper as well.

Weisberg cycled through a large portion of his roster, with Kellerman, Aubrey Gulbin, Shalyn Pryor, Grace Kennedy and Julianna Aguerci each saw their first game action as Dolphins.

The Dolphins will put this victory in the rear view mirror and turn their attention to the strong RPI squad, who they'll take on this Sunday.
