Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's women's lacrosse team took home their second straight Skyline Conference game on Saturday when they matched up against Old Westbury on Marillac Field. After topping Manhattanville College earlier in the week, the Dolphins put together a fantastic overall performance, resulting in a 17-4 victory over the Panthers. UMSV improved their overall record to 4-5 through now games and now sit at 2-1 against the conference.
Head coach
Meaghan Smith's game plan worked to near perfection, as the game was put out of reach almost immediately. The Dolphins rattled off six straight goals to kick off the action, as well as eight of the nine points scored in the first quarter. It was the impressive duo of
Alicia Rodriguez and
Macey Forg who were the driving force behind the team's offense, as the two alternated for the first four goals and combined for six of the eight scored across the first 15 minutes of action.
Senior Alyssa La Torre and sophomore
Ella Meberg registered goals in the first quarter as well.
The offense success rolled into the second quarter, as the Dolphins outscored Old Westbury 6-0 over that span. Forg continued her terrific offensive outing with three more goals while Rodriguez had two and La Torre scored one.
The second half was all but a formality. The Dolphins defense combined to force 23 Old Westbury turnovers, with La Torre leading the charge with a season-high four caused turnovers. Sophomore goaltender
Makenna Reekie made two saves in the victory.
Rodriguez finished the afternoon all over the stat sheet, something that has become a theme over the course of her career. The reigning Skyline Conference Player of the Year finished the contest with five goals, one assist, 13 draw controls and three ground balls. Forg added six goals as well, while
Dana DeDominicis registered the first goal of her career with a score in the fourth quarter. La Torre also had a fantastic outing, as she finished with four goals, one assist and eight ground balls in addition to her caused turnover total, while
Angelina Cardone,
Sofia Marcos and
Arianna Morales each caused one turnover as well.
The Dolphins will look to keep the momentum in their favor when they welcome the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday.
