Bronxville, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's softball team continued their surge towards the Skyline Conference tournament, and they looked the part of a playoff team when they dominated Sarah Lawrence College on the road, sweeping the season series by the scores of 10-0 and 12-1. The victories improved UMSV's conference record to 4-8 overall with six games remaining on their conference schedule.
The first game saw the Dolphins offense spread up and down the lineup, as eight players who received at least one at-bat recorded at least one hit as well. Both
Sierra Romero and
Mila Gutierrez got on the board in the first inning when both recorded RBI singles to put the Dolphins up by two.
UMSV would tack on an additional eight runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Gutierrez,
Emily Cardenas,
Nichole Reyes,
Paige Goerman,
Aaliyah Dejesus and
Kaitlyn Earley would each record RBI, highlighted by extra base hits from both Goerman and Dejesus.
Reyes would go a perfect four-for-four at the dish with a pair of RBI while Romero, Gutierrez and Dejesus recorded two hits apiece. Cardenas had another dominant outing on the mound for the Dolphins, with the first-year pitcher allowing just one hit with eight strikeouts in a complete game effort.
The dominance on both ends of the field carried into game two. The Dolphins jumped out to an eight run lead before the Gryphons could come to bat, with Reyes,
Sabrina Colon,
Ireyshka Lebron,
Savannah Autobee and
Charlotte Kelly each doing their part by driving home runs. That success rolled into the following inning, as Reyes, Colon and
Shaniya Serrano collecting RBI as well.
Reyes was once again perfect at the plate with three hits in as many at-bats to go along with two RBI and two runs scored. Colon and Serrano would have two hits apiece as well while Colon led the way with three RBI.
Gutierrez and Goerman combined for a five inning shutout with five strikeouts.
