Second Half Struggles Doom Dolphins Against Knights

Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's lacrosse team played in their regular season finale on Marillac Field on Tuesday night, challenging Mount Saint Mary College as they looked to secure their second conference win of the season. After having total control in the first half of action, the Dolphins took a step back in the final 30 minutes of play, as the Knights scored all nine of their goals over that time to walk away winners by the score of 9-4.

The Dolphins are now 5-9 overall and 1-5 against the Skyline heading into their contest against St. Joseph's University Long Island on Saturday.

UMSV couldn't have looked much better in the first half of action. The defensive unit was firing on all cylinders, as defenders Adrian Guillermo, Jakob Mahon, Jake Luxoro and Chris Meenan led a unit that allowed zero goals and nine turnovers. A big reason behind that success was starting goalkeeper Walker Moore, who turned away all seven shots that reached net.

The offense controlled the ball for the majority of the half, with graduate student Mustapha Daffeh setting the tone, as he would win all four of his face-off attempts in the half, en route to going 13-of-17 for the day with a team-best three ground balls. Isaac Parsons and Nick Botallico would each score goals in the first half, with the Dolphins up by that amount heading into the break.

The Knights turned up their focus on both ends of the field, picking up the pace both offensively and defensively. The Dolphins would go on to allow nine second half goals, including six straight to close out the contest. Goals from UMSV midfielders Jacob Cochran and Chai Dunlap would attempt to give the Dolphins a boost, but Mount Saint Mary's momentum was too much to overcome.

With Saturday's game against the Golden Eagles on the horizon, the Dolphins will look to close out the year with a victory.
