Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Dolphins Cut It Close, Ultimately Fall To Valiants

Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's lacrosse team returned home on Saturday for a noon start against Manhattanville University in a Skyline Conference showdown, one that had the program honor their four seniors - Adrian Guillermo, Brian Valera, Jacob Cochran and Joseph Santana - in a pregame ceremony. The Dolphins kept things close all game long, but it was the Valiants who would eventually pull away with the 18-12 victory. UMSV fell to 5-8 overall after the result, which includes a 1-4 record against the Skyline.

In what has become a theme when taking on conference rivals, it was the Dolphins who jumped out to the early advantage. UMSV was able to convert a man-up opportunity off the stick of junior Ryan Jean-Pharuns, who was on the receiving end of a pass from Isaac Parsons, to put the team up a goal.

Manhattanville would answer immediately and often, as they'd score three straight goals over the next seven minutes to take a 3-1 advantage. The Dolphins, however, would continue to fight back. Graduate student Savion Williams had a strong game on both ends of the field, and it started when he scored a first quarter goal to make it a 3-2 game. The Dolphins once again cut it to one, this time off a shot from Parsons, with Giovanni Jean-Pharuns picking up the helper.

Now trailing 6-3, UMSV would go on a three goal surge in the second period, two of which came on a man-up situation, with Parsons recording a hat trick and Rene Alamo adding to the scoreboard as well. From there, however, the Valiants would go on a seven goal run between the end of the second quarter until the middle of the third, putting the visitors up for good. The Dolphins would continue to chip away, cutting the deficit to just four goals in the fourth, but Manhattanville's lead was too much to overcome.

Parsons led the way in both goals (four) and assists (two), good for a team-best six points. Cochran, Jean-Pharuns and Williams would each have two scores as well. Guillermo paced the Dolphins defensively with three caused turnovers while Mustapha Daffeh went 14-of-22 from the faceoff dot to go along with seven ground balls. Walker Moore received his first career start in goal for the Dolphins and recorded 13 saves.

Next up for the Dolphins is Mount Saint Mary College, who they'll take on in Riverdale on Tuesday night.
