Purchase, NY - After dropping an overtime thriller to open the Skyline Conference slate last week, the University of Mount Saint Vincent was fresh off a spring break reset and traveled to Purchase to take on Manhattanville University. The Dolphins put together a fantastic second half that saw them pull past the Valiants by the score of 18-14, good enough to secure their first Skyline win of 2024.
Manhattanville opened strong, scoring two goals in the first three minutes of action and held that lead until the 10:28 mark. It was then when
Alicia Rodriguez continued her terrific 2024 campaign, as her first two goals of the contest game within 30 second of each other to tie the game at two apiece. The Valiants would score two more un the first quarter, but a
Macey Forg goal with just as minute remaining would bring the score to 4-3 after the first 15 minutes of action.
After Manhattanville scored three unanswered goals to open the second, the Dolphins would score four straight of their own. Rodriguez, Forg and senior midfielder Alyssa La Torre would help make it a one goal game, and an
Ella Meberg goal with just one second on the clock would bring things to a one goal difference at the break.
The Dolphins would go on to outscore the Valiants 10-6 over the second half, with Rodriguez accounting for half of them. Forg and La Torre would add five combined of their own to secure the victory.
Makenna Reekie would make eight saves in the victory, bringing her season total to 63 this season. Rodriguez once again had a fantastic outing, as the reigning Skyline Conference Player of the Year had a nine goal, 12 ground ball, nine draw control, seven caused turnover effort. Forg would finish the afternoon with five of her own while La Torre had an assist to go along with her hat trick.
Angelina Cardone and
Dayonna Thomas would combine for five caused turnovers of their own.
The Dolphins are set to face off against Old Westbury on Saturday.
