Throggs Neck, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's women's lacrosse team didn't get the result they wanted, but an individual achievement was reached on Wednesday evening out in Throggs Neck.
Alicia Rodriguez, the reigning Skyline Conference Player of the Year and arguably one of the best players in program history, continue her ascension up the record books, as her four goals resulted in becoming both the single season goals and points leader in program history. The Dolphins, however, fell to a tough Maritime squad by the score of 15-5.
The result put the Dolphins at 2-4 against the Skyline Conference and 4-8 overall in the 2024 season.
The Privateers controlled the pace of play in the first quarter, and the scoreboard reflected their success. Maritime scored three straight goals to open the contest, and led by that many for the duration of the opening period. Rodriguez, however, decided to take things into her own hands, as the Easton, Pennsylvania native took things into her own hands with seconds remaining to get the Dolphins on the board for the first time.
UMSV's offensive success carried over into the second, as freshman
Brittany Boyle cut Maritime's lead to one when she scored her fourth goal of the season to cut the deficit to one goal. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, Maritime would turn up their efforts on the offensive end, as they'd rattle off nine straight goals, including seven to close out the half.
Rodriguez would add three more goals to her stat line for the day, but her efforts weren't enough to overcome the large deficit.
Rodriguez led the way in goals and points, as well as draw controls (nine) and caused turnovers (five) in addition to five ground balls. Goalkeeper
Makenna Reekie made nine saves while also scooping a team-best seven ground balls of her own. Reekie, Boyle and Alyssa La Torre would each add two caused turnovers in the loss while
Dana DeDominicis and
Macey Forg combined for five ground balls.
The Dolphins welcome Farmingdale to town on Saturday afternoon for the team's senior day celebration.
