Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent took the Peter Jay Sharp Center floor for the first time in the 2024 season, as they challenged Ramapo College in an early-season Skyline Conference showdown. Head coach Harris Boyes and the Dolphins looked to improve to 2-1 in the conference standings, but the Roadrunners proved to be too tall of a task to overcome. USMV fell in straight sets to Ramapo by the scores of 13-25, 16-25 and 8-25.
The Dolphins are now 2-6 through their first eight games of the season.
Senior hitter
Kyle Thompson returned to the lineup for the just the second time this season after rehabbing from injury and resumed his role as the team's top threat. Thompson paced the Dolphins with five total kills, while also adding a pair of digs. Middle's
Olatomiwa Ibitayo and
Yestro Luciano Jr., had four kills apiece while showcasing their size on the court, while
Kevin Erhand remained in the setter role and collected 14 assists. Libero
Felix Paulino contributed five kills of his own while
James Rose had three kills and three digs in the loss.
The Dolphins did their best against a strong Ramapo squad but struggled to break into the opponents' deficit. UMSV trailed by at least 10 points in each of the three sets played.
The Dolphins will look to right the ship against New Jersey City University on Thursday evening.
