Jersey City, NJ - The University of Mount Saint Vincent dropped their third consecutive Skyline Conference contest on Thursday evening when they lost to the strong New Jersey City University team in straight sets by the scores of 7-25, 19-25, 12-25. Despite the end result, the Dolphins looked like a much improved team compared to how they played against the Gothic Knights less than one week ago. The uptick in competition comes at a good time for UMSV, as they're set to host Yeshiva University and Purchase College for a tri-match inside the Sharp Center this Sunday.
Setter
Matthew Barrancos returned to the lineup on Thursday, allowing senior hitter
Kevin Erhand to reprise his role on the outside. Both players performed adirably against the Gothic Knights, as Erhand led his team with seven kills while Barrancos paced the Dolphins with 10 assists. Barrancos would also register two aces for his team while
James Rose and
Felix Paulino combined for 13 digs.
Kyle Thompson,
Olatomiwa Ibitayo and
Ronny Lopez Jr. would each record a block for head coach
Harris Boyes.
The Dolphins went step for step with the Gothic Knights the second set, trailing by as little as one point at the midway point. Erhand and Barrancos would combine for three kills while Thompson and Ibitayo also picked up points in the set.
With the Maccabees and Panthers set for Riverdale this weekend, the Dolphins will look to bring their conference record to an even .500.
