Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's volleyball team capped off Spring Break in a major way on Friday evening. The team played host to Sarah Lawrence College inside the Sharp Center with the playoffs a little over a week away and continued their push to the tournament, as they handily defeated the Gryphons in three sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-15). The victory was the Dolphins sixth in 13 tries against Skyline Conference competition, cementing themselves in the fifth spot in the stands, good for a first round playoff appearance if it were to start today. UMSV also sports an overall record of 8-11 with four games left on their schedule.
It was another impressive game for senior
Kevin Erhand, as he led all players with 15 kills in the win, his fifth game in 2024 with double digit kills. Setter
Matthew Barrancos had an impressive game for the Dolphins as well, as the sophomore not only registered 29 kills but also four service aces, three of which resulted in UMSV's final two points in the third set. Sophomore
Olatomiwa Ibitayo was also a standout, as the middle collected eight kills to go along with a pair of blocks. Outside hitter
James Rose led the way with eight digs.
The Dolphins offense received contributions from all over their roster, with eight different players registering kills. That was never more apparent than the final set, as Erhand, Barrancos, Ibitayo, Sean Schols and
Tristen Hood each collected points. Erhand had his most dominant set over that span as well, as he registered five of his kills during that span.
The Dolphins will hit the road to Long Island to challenge Old Westbury on Tuesday as the team looks to clinch a postseason berth for the second straight season.
