Box Score 4 Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent, now back from their Spring trip down south concluded their week-long slate of non-conference contests. The Dolphins impressed against Lehman, winning by the scores of 10-1 and 10-9 before being swept on the road on Wednesday against a tough New Jersey City University program. Their .500 record for the week put the team at 3-12 through 15 games with Skyline Conference play on the horizon.
The Dolphins offense was firing on all cylinders on Tuesday when the team plated 20 runs across two games against the Lightning. In game one, it was junior
Sierra Romero who led the way for UMSV with three hits in four at-bats, while
Paige Goerman,
Nichole Reyes,
Emma Capozucca and
Ireyshka Lebron recorded two hits apiece. The Dolphins got going right away, as they would score three first-inning runs, including an RBI single from Capozucca. The sophomore would pick up her second RBI of the afternoon with an RBI single in the second before Reyes would clear the bases with a triple.
Reyes and junior transfer
Aaliyah Dejesus would both record RBI off of sacrifice flies to secure the win. Senior
Charlotte Kelly got the call in game one and impressed with a complete game, one run, four hit performance.
Lehman would find success on offensive in game two, but
Kevin Carbon's lineup would keep up their torrid pace. UMSV would once again score three runs in the first inning, this time with Romero and Goerman driving home runs. Lehman would have a strong bottom half of the second inning when they would score six runs, but the Dolphins would eventually answer back. The team would take the lead in the fifth inning, starting with an RBI double from senior
Kaitlin Cirillo, who was followed by Romero and Lebron, who both drove in runs as well. Goerman put the cherry on top of the inning with a triple to right field.
Lehman would regain the lead in the sixth, but Dejesus would plate two runs in the seventh and eighth innings, with her single to left eventually being the game winner.
Serena Duran and
Mila Gutierrez split time on the mound, with the duo combining for nine strikeouts in the victory.
The Dolphins couldn't continue their offensive momentum into their series with the Gothic Knights. Lebron was the lone Dolphin to reach base in game one with a single to left field. Kelly allowed just four earned runs in five innings, with Goerman finishing the final two innings. Reyes and Goerman would record hits in game two, with Goerman's double driving home sophomore
Sabrina Colon. Kelly would drive home Goerman with a sacrifice fly, but it wasn't enough to top NJCU.
The Dolphins will open the weekend with a double header with Hunter College in preparation for their Skyline Conference opener against St. Joseph's University Long Island on April 7.
