Box Score 2 Bronx, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent dropped both games of a doubleheader against Manhattanville, despite showing late offensive life in the opener to make things close. The losses drop UMSV to 1-9 in Skyline Conference competition.Â
The Dolphins fell 12-4 in game one, but it wasn't without an interesting ending. The Valiants built a steady lead through the first five innings, but UMSV would make a strong push of their own. The Dolphins strung together four runs in the sixth behind RBI efforts from Emma Capozucca, Paige Goerman, Keira Stroud and Kailyn Trigos to cut the deficit to 7-4. Manhattanville would answer that outpouring with a big seventh inning to pull away and secure the win.
Game two proved more one-sided, as Manhattanville jumped out early and never looked back in an 19-2 decision. The Dolphins showed some fight in the third inning, with Stroud and Samantha Aviles each delivering RBI singles to get UMSV on the board. But the Valiants' explosive offense continued to add on, breaking the game open with multiple big innings.
Stroud led the Dolphins offensively across the doubleheader, contributing in both games, while Aviles added key hits in game two.Â
The Dolphins turn right back around and are set to challenge St. Joseph's University Long Island on Friday night.Â
