Purchase, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent willed themselves back into the win column on Wednesday evening, defeating Manhattanville College on the road in four sets (25-16, 15-25, 25-23, 25-21). The victory pushed UMSV passed the Valiants in the Skyline Conference standings, with the Dolphins now the fifth seed with just five games remaining on the 2024 slate. UMSV is now 7-11 on the year, with a 5-7 record against the conference.
Kevin Erhand took on the role as the team's top hitter on Wednesday, a title that has been passed around all season long. The Rockaway Beach, New York product was the line Dolphin to reach double figures in kills with 11 while also adding six digs and a block.
Kyle Thompson and
James Rose, two of head coach
Harris Boyes' other top outsides, put together a strong effort as well. Rose had a nine-kill, four service ace effort while Thompson had six kills and three service aces of his own.
Setter
Matthew Barrancos continued to put together a strong second season in Riverdale, with his 28 assists giving him the 336 on the year, the sixth-most among Skyline players.
Felix Paulino paced the team with 15 digs while
Olatomiwa Ibitayo had seven kills as well.
After splitting the first two sets, UMSV was able to keep the Valiants at bay. Manhattanville made a late run when they scored six straight points in the fourth set to make it a 21-20 game, but a kill from Erhand, blocks from Erhand and
Yestro Luciano Jr. and two service aces from Rose were enough to ensure the win.
UMSV looks to continue their winning ways against conference competition on Friday when Sarah Lawrence College comes to the Sharp Center.
