Westminster, MD - On the heels of a sweep to open their Spring Break trip, the University of Mount Saint Vincent departed Virginia for Maryland, where they'd challenge McDaniel College in a single contest on Monday afternoon. Despite putting up a strong effort - similar to their two game swing against the University of Mary Washington - the Dolphins ultimately lost late to the Green Terror's by the score of 8-4. 

The result put UMSV at 5-9 ahead of their matchup on Wednesday against Stevenson University. 

The Dolphins performed admirably on both sides of the field over the first half of the contest. UMSV reached base four times across the first three innings, including two hits and two stolen bases leadoff hitter Dom Porto. After singling to the left side and stealing both second and third, Porto crossed home plate after sophomore Conor Martin ripped an RBI double to put the Dolphins up one. 

UMSV's offense continued to excel, collecting five hits and a walk over the next three innings, with Porto, Martin, Eric Zimmermann and Joey DiNorcia each reaching base. Freshman Andrew Farina would single up the middle to bring home Zimmermann to give his team a two run edge. 

A big reason behind the team's early success was sophomore hurler Jake Bland. The Astoria, New York native scattered six hits across 5.1 innings of work while collecting seven strikeouts, all the while lowering his season ERA to 1.46. 

Once Bland exited the game, McDaniel's offense would wake up. The host team would plate six runs in the sixth and would lead the rest of the way. Martin and DiNorcia would each score on wild pitches in the top half of the eighth inning, but McDaniel built up enough of a cushion to win by the score of 8-4. 

Zimmermann would lead the way with four hits while Porto had three of his own. Pitchers Ivan Navarro and Michael Iocco picked up one strikeout each in the final two innings. 

The Dolphins are set to take on Stevenson in less than 48 hours before returning to New York.
