Dolphins Win One Of Two In Opening Day Of Spring Classic

Myrtle Beach, SC - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's softball time took the diamond for the first time in the 2024 season on Friday afternoon, first taking on the University of Maine-Farmington before challenging Mount Aloysius College in the second leg of the double header. Head coach Kevin Carbon saw contributions from all over the roster, as the Dolphins went on to win game one 9-4 before dropping game two by the score of 6-3.

The Dolphins offense was firing on all cylinders in game one, as each member of the starting lineup registered at least one hit in the victory. Leading the way was freshman Ireyshka Lebron, who shined in her collegiate debut with three hits in four at-bats, along with an RBI and a pair of runs scored. Speaking of making an impact in her debut, so did freshman Paige Goerman, whose third inning bases clearing triple put the team up 5-0, a cushion that was good enough to seal the game.

Junior Sierra Romero and sophomore Savannah Autobee also drove home runs in the win. Speaking of Autobee, the second-year two way player got it done on both ends of the field. Not only did add two runs scored to her hit and RBI, but also pitched a complete game, where she allowed just four runs on six hits while striking out two in seven innings.

Despite the loss in game two, UMSV saw positives throughout the contest. One of which was transfer junior Aaliyah Dejesus, who led off for the Dolphins in the second straight game and had a three hit effort, including an RBI. Romero tied Dejesus for the team lead in hits with three of her own while Lebron and senior Kaitlin Cirillo each had an RBI.

The Spring Games continue on Saturday when UMSV challenges both the University of Minnesota Morris and Vermont State University Castleton.
