Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent welcomed back their alumni base on Saturday afternoon, all the while hosting Purchase College in their latest Skyline Conference contest. The Dolphins kept up their winning ways inside the Sharp Center, defeating the Panthers by the score of 69 to 37. It was UMSV's eighth win on campus, all the while improving their conference record to 11-4. The team has their eyes on the Skyline tournament, with the Dolphins currently positioned as the three-seed.
The team started out on fire offensively, scoring 17 unanswered points across the first seven minutes of action. Four of
Maria Nardulli's five starters got in the scoring column in across the first four possessions, with
Amber Been,
Magan Jackson,
Kira Villegas and
Ariella Johnson each scoring points. The passing game was impressive as well, as the Dolphins recorded seven first quarter assists.
The defense, too, impressed. UMSV picked up eight first half turnovers and scored on seven of them. Guard
Anastasia Davis led the way with three first-half steals, with Been, Villegas, Johnson and

It wasn't just steals where the defense excelled. UMSV forced Purchase to shoot just seven percent from the floor, including stopping all 10 of their three-point attempts.
The Dolphins started the second half slow, but their terrific first half gave them enough of a cushion to regroup and find their groove. UMSV ended up shooting 60% from the floor in the third period before rounding things out as time expired.
Nardulli saw three players reach double-figures and 12 different players entering the scoring column as she emptied her bench in the victory. Johnson posted 12 points, with Been and Villegas scoring 11 apiece. Been was a force in the passing game with a team-best eight assists while Villegas impressed with nine boards and five steals.
Melanieann Broderick game off the bench and provided eight points and eight boards, while
JaKaia Lotz,
Anastasia Davis,
Julia Angeles,
Shamoni Berrios,
Sofia Marcos,
Olivia Dutzer and
Lexi Tucker each chipping in offensively.
The 15-5 Dolphins have just five games remaining before taking part in the conference tournament. They'll look to keep their success at home in tact on Tuesday when they host Sarah Lawrence College.
