Dolphins Mount Impressive Comeback For Third Straight Victory

Brooklyn, NY - The Dolphins not only had an impressive come from behind victory to make it three straight wins, but evened their record out along the way.

The University of Mount Saint Vincent made the trip out to Brooklyn for the second time this season, this time taking on the Pratt Institute. The Dolphins fell into a tough first half hole that extended into the second half, but the resiliency displayed by UMSV in the final minutes resulted in a hard fought 66-63 win.

The Dolphins are now 3-3 overall this season with conference play on the horizon.

Senior DJ Tucker was the driving force for head coach James Mooney, as evidenced by playing all 40 minutes of the action. The Boynton Beach, Florida native had one of his best scoring outings to date. knocking down a team-best 26 points while converting 75% of his three point attempts. Tucker registered a double-double in the win with 13 rebounds, also a team-high, while adding an assist and a steal.

Freshmen Josiah Basket and Aidan McCahey impressed for their team, with Basket scoring 16 points while McCahey added eight points, a team-best four assists and a pair of steals.

The Dolphins most effective surge came at the most opportune time. Trailing by 11 points with less than five minutes remaining, the team elevated their play on both ends of the floor. It all started with transfer junior Max DePina, whose lone basket of the evening came after he intercepted a pass, went coast to coast and threw down a monster slam dunk to get his bench out of their seats. Tucker would take things into his own hands in the next two possessions, as he would knock down a three before finding Basket on the wing for another three ball to make it a 61-57 contest.

From there, Connor Wein grabbed a rebound after DePina tipped a missed free throw, and the sophomore took it all the way to the other end and hit a tough layup with defenders draped all over him. Mooney would call for a full court press, with UMSV forcing a Cannoneers turnover. Wein would pick up the steal and find Tucker in the corner, and his three point conversion would bring the score to 62-61 in favor of the Dolphins. Pratt would regain the lead with 34 seconds on the clock, but it was once again Tucker who would bail his team out, as his step-back jumper brought the score to 64-63. Tough defense against Pratt would force the missed basket, and Tucker would ice the game after grabbing the rebound with a pair of free throws.

The victory gives UMSV a ton of momentum heading into conference action. Their first opponenet is Manhattanville University, and they'll face off against the Dolphins on the road on Saturday.
