Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's basketball team was looking for their first win of the 2024-25 season on Tuesday evening, and what better place than in front of their fans at the Sharp Center. The Dolphins did just that, as they put together a true team performance in a 74-66 victory over Misericordia University that saw four different players reach double figures in scoring.
The win improved the Dolphins record to 1-3 through four contests.
The two sides would trade leads early on, but it was the three ball that would give the Dolphins the advantage. UMSV would knock down four of their first five attempts, with
Kevin Agyemang and
Josiah Basket account for two apiece while
Max DePina knocked down the final one of that stretch. The Cougars, however, would get the best over the Dolphins across the final six minutes of the half, giving the road team a five-point lead at the break.
The Dolphins would have an impressive second half on offense. The team would combine to shoot 56% from the floor and 64% from three over that span. UMSV opened the half 7-0 run, including Agyemang knocking down a pair of free throws, a layup by DePina and another three ball from Basket. Misericordia would once again see their lead reach seven points, but UMSV continued to chip away, with
Adrian Rraci and
Eric Woodberry contributing off the bench. A
DJ Tucker and-one would give the Dolphins a 56-55 lead with just over eight minutes in regulation.
The Cougars would continue to chip away, but it was UMSV who would respond. A
Connor Wein three pointer gave the Dolphins a four point lead with 1:12 remaining, and a pair of Tucker free throws would put the game on ice for good.
Basket continued the strong start to his collegiate career with a game-high 19 points on seven-of-11 shooting, including shooting 71% from beyond the arc. Fellow first-year DePina posted the first double-double of his young career with 13 points and 11 boards while Agyemang had an efficient 15 points on five-of-eight shooting to go along with six rebounds, three assists and a steal. Tucker once again filled the stat sheet with 11 points, six assists, five rebounds and a steal while Wein provided valuable minutes off the bench with nine points of his own.
UMSV returns to the road on Thursday for a showdown with Brooklyn College.
